January 27, 2017 started out just like any other winter day…
A gray overcast sky, thick with snow wielding clouds, looming threateningly overhead…
Frigid temperatures pushing people into warm coats, hands huddled in pockets, dressed in layers, hats pulled down tight…
People rushing around- cars speeding, people waiting impatiently in line for their coffee, in a hurry to not be late to work- just like any other winter day… except to me, to us.
January 27, 2017 was anything but ordinary. …
January 27, 2017 was the day that our family changed, grew…officially welcomed in a long waiting member who we all had grown to love…
That Friday was the day my mom had excitedly been waiting for…even though she tried to pretend that it was just another day to her, too…
The day my mom got to marry her best friend… a man who has made her the happiest I have ever seen in my life.
That day, standing there, watching her- eyes bright and shining, face glowing in happiness… and Mark, her new husband, embracing her after “I now pronounce you, husband and wife…” tears filling his eyes as he kissed my mom- made that day, January 27, 2017, anything but ordinary…

Aw, this is really nice. I know that sounds like a lame compliment, but it’s not. I like the subtlety of this piece. There’s a slight build, and you give the feel of a spectator, outside looking in on the happiness and love your mom experiences.. and there’s nothing like seeing those we love find happiness. That is, well, really nice, right? 🙂
